Dewey was chosen to be the Republican standard bearer for the second time. The Democrats chose Harry S. Truman. From the day of Mr. Truman's nomination the experts were saying he didn't have a chance of beating Mr. Dewey. However, President Truman had different ideas. After a long and hard fought campaign he fooled the experts and was returned to office.
