A proud new plane, the XB-70 overcomes a score of vicissitudes to make its first test flight. Designed to replace the B-52, the new plane was discarded as a military weapon in favor of missiles. However, despite locked landing gear and blown tires on its maiden flight, the B-70 promises to shape the future course of commercial transports.
