The Depression hits. VS factory gates closed or closing; unemployed at job office line and sitting around idle. Shot symbolizing exclusion: MS from behind worker who watches as large iron gate closes in front of him. As economic situation worsens, both extremes of political spectrum grow more popular , promising great changes. The Nazis gain in strength, and so do the Communists, and street violence often breaks out between the two sides. streets

VS German Communist Party (KPD) march. CU cymbals hitting ; MCU feet marching. VS parade incl a small band playing unusual horns w/ several narrow pipes, some straight some wrap around player's body. Anti-fascist signs; sign w/ pic of Lenin. GVs big march. Funny sign shows cartoon communist w/ moveable arm the keeps bopping a cartoon Nazi. MCU 2 boys w/ bandaged heads. LS speaker leads a cheering crowd, surrounded by flags, on platform decorated in the hammer & sickle theme. Bird's eye view Huge crowd! Speaker may be Thalmann but we don't get a real close look at him.

Nazi Parade. SA guys harassed by onlookers, and shove back. VS street battles in Berlin, etc. People running, police chasing, MLS men run past carrying injured guy. In 1930 the NSDAP wins 1/6 of the seats. Low ang entrance of Reichstag. Nazis in uniform (probably the new Nazi representatives) march in rows to the Reichstag. Pan w/ Goering as he enters. MS pan w/ a grinning Goebbels. MS Strasser & Frick.
