American-born Masten Gregory, of Kansas City - co-pilot in an Italian car, wins the French race with Jochen Rindt of Austria. The 24-hour drive grind covers just a bit under 3,000 miles. Taking the lead 2 1/2 hours from the finish, they have little trouble in beating the 11-American-made cars, only one of which finished. All the race car drivers running across the road to their cars.
